Vice President Sara Duterte has firmly dismissed rumors of her resignation, stating that stepping down would betray the 32.2 million Filipinos who voted for her in 2022.
In a social media statement published July 26, Duterte made it clear that she has no plans to step aside despite the ongoing impeachment trial against her.
“Never gonna happen. Hindi ako magre-resign dahil iyon ay parang betrayal sa 32.2 million na mga kababayan bumoto sa akin,” Duterte said.
Addressing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directly, the Vice President challenged him to initiate her removal if he wishes to see her out of office.
“Kung gusto ni BBM, tanggalin niya ako. Gawin niya ang lahat para tanggalin niya ako,” she added.
Speculation regarding her potential departure gained traction as she faces impeachment allegations involving the alleged misuse of confidential funds, undisclosed wealth, and grave threats. Her legal defense team has repeatedly denied these claims, clarifying that resignation was never discussed.
The trial continues to move forward in the Senate impeachment court, which recently concluded hearings on the prosecution panel’s evidence regarding Article IV of the charges.
Duterte reaffirmed her commitment to face the proceedings directly while continuing to serve as Vice President.
