VP SARA’S CAMP SATISFIED WITH FIRST DAY OF IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team expressed satisfaction with the opening day of her impeachment trial, saying the proceedings proceeded smoothly despite expected legal disagreements between both sides.

Speaking to reporters after Monday’s hearing, defense spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said it was normal for the prosecution and defense to present opposing arguments during the initial proceedings.

“There were arguments from both sides, but again, that’s normal. Talaga namang inaasahan na talagang magkakaroon ng mga ganitong opposing views ang bawat panig. But so far, I think, it was a good first day for me.”

Poa also emphasized that the defense is not focused on determining which side gained an advantage during the hearing, but rather on effectively presenting its arguments before the impeachment court.

“As long as we present our case and present what we want for the day, we should be happy.”

He added:

“Hindi naman po kami yung tipong magbibilangan ba kung sinong lamang, sinong hindi lamang.”

Meanwhile, lead defense counsel Atty. Sheila Sison delivered the camp’s opening statement, outlining the legal foundation of the Vice President’s defense.

In her 16-minute presentation, Sison questioned the prosecution’s position and underscored the importance of due process, fairness, and adherence to the Constitution as the core of the defense’s strategy.
