MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” has lost intensity but will continue to dump rain across sections of Southern Luzon and the Visayas through midweek, state weather agency PAGASA announced on Sunday, September 20.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio clarified the scope of the monsoon’s remaining activity during a briefing.
“Ang mahinang habagat ay patuloy na makakaapekto mostly sa western section ng Southern Luzon at ng Visayas bukas hanggang sa Miyerkules,” Aurelio said.
PAGASA confirmed that no low-pressure areas (LPA) or tropical cyclones are currently being tracked either within or surrounding the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Most regions can anticipate predominantly fair weather conditions despite the lingering monsoon, though localized afternoon or evening thunderstorms remain likely.
Palawan is forecast to experience overcast conditions alongside scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the remainder of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by localized rain showers.
The weather bureau cautioned the public that sudden severe thunderstorms could still spark localized flash floods or landslides.
Sea travel remains unrestricted nationwide, as no gale warnings are currently raised over any of the country’s seaboards.
