Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri said Thursday that Senator Loren Legarda is currently receiving medical care for a serious lung illness, but he could not provide a definite timeline for her return to the Senate.
Speaking at a press conference, Zubiri said Legarda is hoping to return to the Philippines at the earliest opportunity but still has medical tests to complete.
“She wants to come home as soon as possible, tatapusin lang test,” Zubiri said.
When asked if Legarda might have to remain away from the Senate for a longer period, Zubiri said he could not determine whether an extension would be necessary.
“I don’t know. Serious condition niya,” he said.
Zubiri characterized Legarda’s condition as a serious lung-related illness that requires extensive medical attention.
“It’s a lung illness, seeking medical attention which need heavy medical attention. Serious matter,” he said.
The Senate majority leader also urged the public and fellow lawmakers to show understanding toward Legarda as she continues her treatment.
“I think she is in the hospital. Tayong mga Pinoy, bigyan naman ng konting consideration,” he said.
