ZUBIRI URGES SENATORS TO DROP POLITICAL DRAMA AND PASS PRIORITY BILLS

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri on Monday called on his colleagues to move past recent political friction and focus on passing crucial legislation as Congress prepares for a special session.

Zubiri emphasized that the Senate majority stands ready to deliberate on the priority bills outlined by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which target vital sectors such as social welfare, education, and public health.

“The agenda is clear and urgent, touching on health care, education funding and assistance for Filipinos in crisis, matters that can bring real help to Filipino families who need government to act with urgency and compassion,” Zubiri noted.

Expressing his desire for a professional and unified chamber, the majority leader shared his confidence that the Senate can overcome its current internal hurdles to fulfill its constitutional duties.

“The Senate has always had the capacity to rise above difficult moments, and I trust that we can approach this session with seriousness, respect for our mandate and a clear sense of responsibility to the people,” he said.

Zubiri stressed the importance of a streamlined legislative process for the upcoming Wednesday session, urging lawmakers to avoid unnecessary political theater.

“Walang drama, walang delay, walang dahilan para hindi magtrabaho. We should be ready to work and ready to help move forward whatever must be acted upon for the public good.”

The call for unity comes amid ongoing leadership friction within the upper chamber.

The Senate has been dealing with internal disputes following a June 3 reorganization that elected Senator Win Gatchalian as the Senate President Pro Tempore and acting Senate President—a move contested by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who maintains his claim to the leadership post.
