ZUS Coffee showcased a masterclass in blocking to dismantle Choco Mucho in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-23, securing the solo top spot in the PVL On Tour at the Batangas City Sports Center on Saturday, July 11.
The Thunderbelles dominated the net defense, racking up a whopping 17 blocks throughout the match. AC Miner and Jolina Dela Cruz spearheaded the frontline defense with three blocks apiece, propelling ZUS Coffee to a flawless 2-0 record.
Following the stellar performance, head coach Jerry Yee praised his squad for their adaptability as the team works on building their on-court chemistry.
“We’re trying to practice our rotation. Marami kaming bago, mga bagong position, so we’d like to practice and get them some playing time,” Yee said.
“I’d like to say na masaya ako at nagre-respond sila sa mga changes, but siyempre, marami pa rin kaming adjustments na kailangang gawin,” he added.
While no player from ZUS Coffee breached the double-digit scoring mark, a well-distributed offense kept the Flying Titans at bay. Chinnie Arroyo top-scored for the team with nine points, while veterans Alyanna Ong and Jovelyn Gonzaga chipped in eight markers each.
On the other hand, Choco Mucho relied on Caitlyn Viray and Des Cheng, who tallied 12 and 10 points respectively, but their efforts fell short of saving the Flying Titans from the straight-sets loss.
