PASIG, Philippines — Arellano University extended its flawless run in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament after routing University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 88-65, on Friday, September 25.
The Chiefs, gaining recognition as a formidable contender this season, set the tone early by seizing a 31-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looking back.
King Vinoya top-scored for Arellano with 15 points, two rebounds, and an assist, while T-Mc Ongotan registered 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Yuan Camay and Basty Valencia added 10 points each to help the Legarda-based squad secure its third consecutive victory.
Arellano head coach Chico Manabat attributed the team’s strong performance to rigorous preparation and collective effort.
“The preparation ‘yong pinaka nagbunga, so we prepared to win and ‘yon lang talaga ‘yon. We stayed consistent. Tinulungan namin isa’t isa ‘yong mga bata at nag-improve sila,” Arellano coach Chico Manabat said.
Juan Tulabot paced Perpetual with 16 points and five rebounds, while LA Casinillo and Mark Gojo Cruz chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively, as the Altas dropped to a 2-2 record.
Arellano aims for a 4-0 record when it encounters Letran on Monday, September 28, at the San Juan Arena, while Perpetual seeks to recover against College of Saint Benilde on Thursday, October 1, at the same venue.
