Action star and award-winning actor-producer Coco Martin has officially joined AKTOR PH (The League of Filipino Actors), marking his entry during the organization’s sixth-year anniversary celebration.
The high-profile alignment was spearheaded by AKTOR PH founding member and TV host Dingdong Dantes, alongside veteran actress-producer and former ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos. Both industry leaders personally invited Martin to join the guild.
Dantes revealed on social media that the collaboration stemmed from an intimate meeting held last year at Santos’ residence.
“Last year, nagkaroon kami ng isang importanteng usapan sa bahay ni Ma’am Charo, kaming tatlo ni Coco… Nauwi ang kwentuhan sa mga hangarin namin para sa industriya, para sa sektor ng mga artista, at para sa komunidad na patuloy naming sinusubukang palakasin,” Dantes recalled.
Last year, we had an important conversation at the house of Ma’am Charo, the three of us with Coco… The chat led to our aspirations for the industry, for the actors’ sector, and for the community that we continuously try to strengthen.
Dantes expressed his gratitude for finding a shared vision with Martin, emphasizing how collective action bolsters their advocacy for local entertainers.
“At siguro kapag may mga taong kasama kang may parehong malasakit para sa kapwa aktor, mas lalo mong naiintindihan kung bakit mo ginagawa ang lahat ng ito… basta may mga taong handang makiisa at tumulong sa atin. Nakakatuwang isipin na ang usapang iyon ay magiging isang solid at konkretong proyekto very soon… Welcome to Aktor, Coco Martin. At salamat po, Ma’am Charo,” Dantes added.
And perhaps when you are with people who share the same compassion for fellow actors, you understand even more why you are doing all of this… as long as there are people ready to unite and help us. It is wonderful to think that that conversation will turn into a solid and concrete project very soon… Welcome to Aktor, Coco Martin. And thank you, Ma’am Charo.
Santos likewise lauded Martin’s entry into the organization, noting that the FPJ’s Batang Quiapo star immediately committed to taking on a deeper responsibility within the guild beyond mere membership.
“We invited Coco to become part of @aktorph, and true to his heart for the craft, he said yes—not only as a member, but with a sincere desire to contribute more meaningfully to the acting community,” Santos wrote.
“With his influence… Coco is such a valuable addition to the organization, and I am truly proud to welcome him into AKTOR. Exciting times ahead.”
Accepting the welcome, Martin emphasized the importance of solidarity among Filipino artists as he officially pledged his support to the group’s mission.
“Maraming salamat, @aktorph, sa inyong pagmamahal sa ating sining… Ipinagmamalaki ko na ako ay isang, Aktor,” Martin declared.
Thank you very much, @aktorph, for your love for our craft… I am proud to be an actor.
The formal induction coincided with AKTOR PH’s sixth anniversary over the weekend, celebrating over half a decade of advocating for the welfare, rights, and professional development of Filipino performers.
