DENR PROBES UNPERMITTED TREE REMOVAL ALONG ROXAS BOULEVARD

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has launched an official investigation into allegations of unauthorized tree earthballing activities along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.

In an advisory released Friday, the DENR announced that a specialized team has been deployed to the site to conduct an immediate assessment and verify if the operations have the required legal clearance.

The agency warned that if the investigation uncovers any violations or a lack of valid permits, it will pursue strict administrative and legal actions against the responsible parties, including the project’s contractors.

The department highlighted the critical role of maintaining urban greenery, reminding the public and developers of existing environmental regulations.

“The DENR underscores that urban trees are protected resources, and all project proponents are required to strictly follow environmental rules, secure proper clearances, and coordinate with the Department before undertaking any activity involving trees.”

The DENR further emphasized its dedication to regulatory oversight and the preservation of city ecosystems.

“The Department remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of urban green spaces.”

The probe was initiated after viral social media videos showed trees being uprooted and relocated along the historic boulevard. The footage triggered widespread public outcry and concern regarding the survival rate of the displaced trees, as well as the legitimacy of the environmental permits issued for the project.
