The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) released ₱600,000 in seed capital for community-led enterprises in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro, aimed at supporting former rebels and indigenous people.
The capital was distributed under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) initiative to foster self-reliance and peace in conflict-affected areas.
On September 15, the Tatag IP Farmers PAMANA Livelihood Association in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte, received ₱300,000 to establish a motor spare parts supply and vulcanizing shop.
The 21-member association includes former rebels and Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICC/IPs).
”The enterprise, composed of 21 ICC/IP members including FRs, was formally blessed in a ceremonial rite symbolizing the start of their new source of income,” DSWD-11 stated.
A separate ₱300,000 grant was awarded to the Bagong Laak Farmers PAMANA Livelihood Association in Special Barangay Talle, Kidawa, Laak, Davao de Oro. Comprising 17 former rebels, the group will operate an agricultural and veterinary supply store to serve local farmers and livestock raisers.
”The group, composed of 17 FRs, aims to provide both livelihood and essential supplies for farming and livestock management in their community,” the agency added.
DSWD-11 highlighted that the projects emphasize community ownership and cultural sensitivity to help beneficiaries lead their own economic development.
”Through the PAMANA-Peace and Development Buong Bansa Mapayapa (PDBBM) program, communities continue to gain opportunities to improve livelihoods, enhance resilience, and contribute to peace and development in conflict-affected areas,” DSWD-11 added.
