The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has mobilized a massive relief inventory to support local government units in Albay as Mayon Volcano continues to discharge ash and volcanic material.
As of early Sunday morning, the agency confirmed that over 301,000 family food packs, 27,000 ready-to-eat food boxes, and 15,000 non-food items have been strategically prepositioned throughout the Bicol Region to ensure a rapid response to the ongoing unrest.
Beyond immediate goods, the DSWD Field Office 5 reported significant financial interventions for those previously affected by the volcano’s activity. The agency has already distributed:
- ₱11.3 million in emergency cash transfers.
- ₱28.3 million via cash-for-work programs.
- Direct financial aid to 2,169 farmers displaced by earlier volcanic threats.
The heightened preparation follows reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) regarding pyroclastic density currents triggered by collapsing lava flows on the volcano’s southwestern slopes late Saturday afternoon.
Alert Level 3 remains active over Mayon. Authorities continue to strictly enforce a prohibition on entering the six-kilometer permanent danger zone to prevent casualties from unpredictable volcanic surges.
