The doubles run of Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and Grand Slam legend Venus Williams at the Bad Homburg Open concluded with a quarterfinal defeat against second seeds Tereza Mihalíková and Olivia Nicholls, who wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Eala and Williams started promisingly, breaking ahead to a 3-2 advantage in the opening frame. However, Mihalíková and Nicholls quickly adjusted, elevating their defense and breaking back to claim four consecutive games and secure the first set.
The momentum stayed firmly with the second seeds in the second set as Eala and Williams found it difficult to recover. Mihalíková and Nicholls dictated the crucial exchanges, racing to a dominant 5-1 cushion before comfortably closing out the contest in straight sets.
Despite the exit, the high-profile partnership offered excellent grass-court preparation for both players ahead of Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.
Eala enters the prestigious tournament as the No. 29 seed, marking a major milestone in her rising career, while Williams is slated to team up with her sister, Serena, to stage a highly anticipated doubles reunion on the historic London lawns.
