ED SHEERAN PARTS WAYS WITH WARNER MUSIC AFTER 15-YEAR RUN

Global pop superstar Ed Sheeran has officially ended his long-term partnership with Warner Music Group, concluding a definitive 15-year tenure that produced eight full-length studio albums.

The British singer-songwriter broke the news directly to fans via his newsletter, a departure subsequently confirmed by the major record label.

Sheeran clarified that his exit was entirely amicable, framing the career move as an evolution of his personal and professional identity rather than the result of a corporate fallout.

“This isn’t a ‘disgruntled artist leaves record label’ type situation. This is a boy who started as a teenager… to the father of 2 man who exists now, who feels like he needs a shift and change in the way he does things professionally,” Sheeran explained.

The chart-topping artist stands as one of the most commercially dominant figures in modern music history. Since bursting onto the scene with his 2011 debut album “+”, Sheeran has generated approximately 200 million in record sales. His 2017 blockbuster album “\÷” (Divide) remains a cornerstone of the streaming era, anchored by mega-hits like “Shape of You,” which is currently closing in on 5 billion streams on Spotify.

While his latest studio efforts have experienced more modest commercial returns compared to his career peaks—with his most recent 2025 album “Play” peaking at No. 5 in the United States—Sheeran’s drawing power as a live act remains unchallenged as he continues to sell out stadium tours globally.

Warner Music expressed gratitude for their historic run together, noting that they will maintain a relationship with the artist by managing his extensive back catalog.

“proud to have supported Ed through his discovery and remarkable rise,” Warner Music stated in a comment to Music Week.

Under their existing contractual structure, Warner retains ownership of Sheeran’s earliest master recordings. His more recent projects are controlled by his independent imprint, Gingerbread Man Records, and were previously licensed through Warner.

While speculation is already swirling within the music industry regarding potential high-profile distribution deals, Sheeran has yet to reveal his next label destination.
