Former Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon received a cold reception from local residents and netizens in Iloilo after visiting several local officials to solicit support for her intended senatorial run in the 2028 elections.
The development gained public attention following a social media post by local artist Rock Drilon, which was subsequently reshared by political analyst Atty. Jesus Falcis.
Drilon claimed that Guanzon’s outreach efforts backfired, triggering a wave of heavy criticism from Ilonggo netizens online.
“She got what she deserves—this time she was berated big time online. Pinagpiyestahan ng katakot-takot na insulto—brutal,” Drilon wrote, concluding his post with a remark in Hiligaynon: “Abi niya seguro mainto niya ang mga Ilonggo.”
Guanzon has not yet issued a formal public response regarding the online pushback or the details of her visit.
The former election official previously announced her plans to pursue a seat in the Senate in 2028.
Iloilo remains a recognized stronghold for the Liberal Party, where former Vice President Leni Robredo and current Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan secured decisive victories during the 2022 presidential and vice-presidential elections.
