GINEBRA DEFUSES SAN MIGUEL BEER TO CAPTURE GAME 1 OF PBA GOVERNORS’ CUP QUARTERFINALS

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra turned up the defensive intensity and unleashed a decisive offensive surge in the final quarter to secure a 104-95 victory over the San Miguel Beermen in Game 1 of their best-of-five quarterfinals series in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday, October 27.

The Kings broke open a tight contest at the start of the payoff period, orchestrating a blistering 18-4 blitz that stretched a narrow 76-70 advantage into a commanding 94-74 cushion. Despite a late push by the Beermen, Ginebra comfortably maintained control until the final buzzer.

Jordan Murphy spearheaded the attack for the crowd darlings with a dominant double-double of 29 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks. Floor general Scottie Thompson complemented the effort with a stellar all-around performance of 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Meanwhile, Isaac Go delivered a breakthrough performance in a Ginebra uniform, chipping in 14 points while anchoring the defensive scheme that successfully neutralized multi-time Best Player of the Conference June Mar Fajardo, limiting the star center to just three points. Guard RJ Abarrientos added 16 points and six assists to bolster the Ginebra offense.

On the side of San Miguel, CJ Perez led the scoring charge with 21 points. However, reinforcement George King was held in check; after averaging 33 points during the elimination round, he was limited to 20 points on 9-of-20 shooting, failing to convert from beyond the arc on two attempts.

Ginebra will look to push San Miguel to the brink and secure a commanding 2-0 series lead when Game 2 tips off on Friday, October 30, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
