Emergency housing aid and relief support are guaranteed for residents in Ilocos Sur after a powerful tornado tore through the towns of Cabugao, Sinait, Bantay, and Narvacan, damaging 60 structures and leaving two completely destroyed.
Government agencies alongside local response teams launched disaster assessments and relief drives to address the damage.
Ilocos Sur Governor Jeremias Singson stated that assistance packages will be tailored according to structural damage and resident eligibility.
To expand relief efforts, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development has stepped in through its Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program to extend targeted support to victims.
Local teams are actively evaluating properties to finalize the list of qualified recipients and coordinate aid distribution.
The severe weather also hit Cabugao North Central School, prompting community volunteers to gather for debris clearance and site cleanup. Overall provincial statistics indicate that widespread weather disturbances have affected roughly 5,026 families, translating to over 17,000 individuals.
Frontline workers from both national and municipal offices have mobilized food packages, non-food essential items, and building repair kits. Concurrently, the Provincial Health Office has deployed medical personnel to conduct health check-ups and distribute free pharmaceuticals.
“Based on our previous experiences, health is one of our priorities. Having a healthy body means being more productive,” Singson noted, highlighting ongoing efforts to upgrade local healthcare infrastructure.
