KIKO BARZAGA HINTS AT CONGRESSIONAL RUN AGAINST MOTHER

Former Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has teased a potential political comeback that could trigger an unusual electoral showdown against his own mother, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga, in the upcoming special congressional race.

During an exclusive interview with the Bilyonaryo News Channel, Barzaga offered a playful response when asked about his intentions to reclaim the House seat he was recently forced to vacate.

“Meowmaybe nyahaha,” Barzaga quipped. “‘Di pa sure.”

However, when pressed on whether he would consider running directly against his mother for the position, his reply was noticeably more affirmative.

“Meowyes,” he said.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has scheduled the special election for August 29, 2026, with the filing of certificates of candidacy set for July 15 to 17, followed by the start of the campaign period on July 30.

Barzaga remained tight-lipped about whether he would seek his mother’s blessing before finalizing his plans.

“It’s a supriseeeee,” Barzaga added.

Barzaga originally secured the district seat during the 2025 midterm elections under the National Unity Party, defeating independent candidate Jesse Frani with 165,942 votes. His term ended abruptly on June 2, 2026, when 265 members of the House of Representatives voted to adopt Committee Report 289, resulting in his expulsion.

The disciplinary action was triggered by controversial behavior, including a Facebook Live broadcast where he compared the House plenary to a “crocodile farm” and insulted his fellow lawmakers.

The potential family rivalry has already caught the attention of election officials. In a separate interview on the same network, COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia acknowledged that rumors of the face-off are actively circulating.

“May mga bali-balita that the good mayor of Dasmariñas, Cavite, who happens to be the mother, will be running likewise as congressman,” Garcia noted.
