Motorists in Manila are advised to use alternative routes as several roads will be closed and traffic will be rerouted beginning 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 21, in connection with the observance of the 54th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
The Manila local government identified the following areas that will be affected by the temporary traffic measures:
ROAD CLOSURES
Mendiola Area
- C.M. Recto Avenue from N. Reyes Street to Mendiola
- Legarda Street from Figueras Street to San Rafael Street
Liwasang Bonifacio Area
- Magallanes Drive from Jones Bridge to McArthur Bridge
Ayala Bridge Area
- Ayala Bridge
- Eastbound lane of Ayala Boulevard from San Marcelino Street to Romualdez Street
REROUTING SCHEMES
Liwasang Bonifacio
- Vehicles traveling northbound on P. Burgos Avenue and heading for Magallanes Drive should continue straight toward Jones Bridge and proceed to their destinations.
- Motorists coming from McArthur Bridge who plan to use Magallanes Drive should proceed straight to the southbound lane of P. Burgos Avenue and continue to their destinations.
Mendiola
- Vehicles coming from Quezon Boulevard and C.M. Recto Avenue bound for Mendiola Street should turn left onto N. Reyes Street before continuing to their destinations.
- Vehicles from Sta. Mesa traveling through Legarda Street toward C.M. Recto Avenue should turn right onto Figueras Street, continue to Earnshaw Street and proceed to their destinations.
- Motorists from P. Casal Street heading toward Mendiola Street should turn left onto San Rafael Street, continue to Bilibid Viejo Street, then proceed toward Quezon Boulevard.
Ayala Bridge
- Vehicles from Romualdez Street intending to cross Ayala Bridge should turn left onto Ayala Boulevard, then right onto Taft Avenue. As an alternative, motorists may continue straight to N. Lopez Street, turn right onto A. Villegas Street and then left onto C. Muñoz Street.
- Vehicles from San Marcelino Street heading toward Ayala Bridge should turn right onto Ayala Boulevard and then right onto Taft Avenue. Alternatively, they may continue along San Marcelino Street and turn left onto UN Avenue.
- Vehicles traveling eastbound on Ayala Boulevard and intending to cross Ayala Bridge should turn right onto San Marcelino Street.
- Motorists from C. Palanca Street heading toward Ayala Bridge should turn left onto P. Casal Street.
- Vehicles from P. Casal Street intending to cross Ayala Bridge should turn right onto C. Palanca Street.
The Manila local government said the closures and rerouting measures will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on September 21 and will remain in place until further notice.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their trips ahead of time and take alternative routes to avoid possible delays in the affected areas.
