MANILA CITY HALL REMAINS FLOOD-FREE DURING STORM INDAY

Effective infrastructure upgrades and seamless inter-agency cooperation successfully prevented flooding at the Manila City Hall grounds on July 10 as Tropical Storm Inday swept through the capital.

Acting on directives from Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, Vice Mayor Angela Chi Atienza convened a meeting with key local offices to assess the city’s storm response and the management of a concurrent public rally at Liwasang Bonifacio.

Key Department Reports

Officials from several key departments briefed the administration on the containment efforts:

  • Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) & Department of Environment and Public Services (DEPS): Reported zero flooding around the City Hall premises. They noted that localized flooding in other districts receded rapidly, attributing the quick runoff to ongoing drainage projects and close cooperation with national government agencies.
  • Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD): Led by Director Arnel Eustacio Angeles, the department deployed medical personnel and mobile restrooms to Liwasang Bonifacio, ensuring the safety, health, and orderliness of the demonstration.

Looking Ahead

City disaster monitoring units remain on alert as they actively track two new weather disturbances projected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) later this week.
