Marikina City was honored with six awards at the 2026 Regional SubayBAYANI Awards, hosted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) on October 29 at Marco Polo Ortigas in Pasig City.
The city earned a Grand Award and an Exemplar Award under the Most Significant Change Category for implementing community-focused programs and practices.
Marikina’s recognition spanned various public service and governance sectors, notably including:
- Healthcare Expansion: A partnership with a local dialysis center to provide free hemodialysis services, easing the financial strain on residents with kidney disease.
- Health Reforms: Commendations under the 2023-2025 Local Government Unit Health Scorecard for building an integrated, accessible, and high-quality local health system.
- Dental Health: The school-based oral health program, “Doktora Ngiti and the Tooth Defenders,” which promotes preventive care and dental awareness among students.
- Resource Management: Recognition for its operational Special Health Fund, which centralizes resources for local health services, alongside achieving a 100-percent issuance rate of Licenses to Operate for primary care facilities.
- Infrastructure Monitoring: Acknowledgment for the effective implementation and monitoring of locally funded infrastructure projects.
Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro expressed gratitude for the accolades, crediting the hard work of city employees and the continued backing of the local community.
“Proud akong ibahagi na kinilala ang Marikina City bilang Grand Awardee at Exemplar Awardee sa 2026 SubayBAYANI Awards ng DILG!” Teodoro shared in a social media post.
“Kinilala ang ating mahusay na pagpapatupad ng locally funded infrastructure projects at healthcare governance, na patuloy na nagbibigay ng mas maayos na serbisyo sa ating mga kababayan,” she added.
Concluding her message, Teodoro dedicated the awards to the people who power the city’s daily operations and community life.
