MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila residents and visitors can explore the capital region’s rich history, art, science, and cultural heritage this October as museums and cultural centers across the metropolis join the nationwide celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, with several destinations opening their doors free of charge.
Spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the annual observance for 2026 centers on the theme “Bridging Divides: Preserving Traditions, Fostering Innovation.”
Museums across the capital serve as vital repositories of national identity and historical memory, giving the public opportunities to engage with the nation’s past while experiencing contemporary cultural expressions.
Several institutions in the capital region are offering complimentary entry throughout the month:
- National Museum Central Complex (Manila): Comprising the National Museum of Fine Arts—home to Juan Luna’s iconic Spoliarium—alongside the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Museum of Natural History. The complex is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on selected religious holidays, with standard free admission.
- UST Museum (Manila): Offering free admission from October 5 to 28, showcasing extensive collections of religious art, archaeology, ethnography, and works by renowned Filipino artists.
- Bahay Modernismo (Quezon City): A heritage museum recreating a 1950s mid-century modern Filipino residence featuring preserved personal belongings from the Aquino family’s former Times Street home. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge.
- Presidential Car Museum (Quezon City): Displaying official motor vehicles utilized by past Philippine chief executives. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission.
- Quezon Heritage House (Quezon City): Located inside Quezon Memorial Circle, this reconstructed home models the Quezon family’s former Gilmore Street residence. Visits are currently by appointment.
- Ateneo Art Gallery (Quezon City): Offering free admission every Friday and Saturday, as well as select Sundays throughout October.
- Metropolitan Museum of Manila / The M (Taguig): Free entry is available until October 18 for TRAVERSE: Creativity in Motion, an exhibition highlighting paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media creations by the 2026 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) awardees and finalists.
Beyond these featured locations, dozens of other specialized museums and cultural sites across Manila, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Malabon, Pasig, Marikina, Pateros, Makati, Taguig, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa are welcoming visitors this October, highlighting themes ranging from indigenous crafts and sports history to maritime heritage and interactive art.
