Fresh off his screen return, South Korean actor Nam Joo-hyuk continues to expand his roster of projects. Following the debut of his comeback series “The East Palace,” the 32-year-old star has been locked in to headline two upcoming television shows.
Disney+ revealed on Thursday that Joo-hyuk will topbill the action-thriller “Code.” The streamer confirmed he will take on the role of Yun Tae-joo, an ambitious, ethically compromised partner at a prominent legal firm who lets nothing block his path to victory.
Tae-joo gets sucked into a dangerous predicament after accessing an enigmatic app that promises to realize any wish, only to learn that every granted desire carries a grim consequence.
The cast of “Code” also features Lee E-dam (“Daily Dose of Sunshine,” “Can This Love Be Translated?”), Kim Eui-sung (“Train to Busan,” “Taxi Driver”), and Park Hoon (“Memories of the Alhambra,” “Bloodhounds”).
While an official launch date has not been finalized, Disney+ indicated the project is scheduled to drop in 2027.
In a separate report on Thursday, K-entertainment site Soompi disclosed that Joo-hyuk is also set to star in a new romantic series provisionally titled “Heartbeat.” The drama will be penned by Lee Si-eun, the screenwriter behind hit titles “True Beauty” and “Lovely Runner.”
Joo-hyuk catapulted to international fame in 2016 through his performance in the hit sports drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo.”
He subsequently built an impressive filmography as a leading man in series like “The Bride of Habaek,” “Start-Up,” “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” and “Vigilante.”
Most recently, he starred in the dark fantasy “The East Palace,” which debuted this month. Playing a character with the power to cross into the spirit realm, the show marked his official acting comeback after completing his mandatory military enlistment.
