NCR SECURES 19TH STRAIGHT PALARONG PAMBANSA TITLE

The National Capital Region (NCR) cemented its status as the powerhouse of Philippine youth sports by capturing its 19th back-to-back overall championship at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.

Dominating the medal standings, the NCR delegation swept the regular sports, demonstration events, and Paragames to extend its historic winning streak in the country’s premier annual student-athlete meet.

The champion region amassed a commanding haul of 233 medals in regular sporting events, alongside five in demonstration sports and 20 in the Paragames division.

Region IV-A finished the multi-sport conclave as the first runner-up, while Region XI and Region VI claimed the second and third runner-up spots, respectively.

The regional campaign was highlighted by an extraordinary pool performance from its top swimmer, who emerged as the most decorated athlete of the games with a seven-gold medal sweep. Additionally, NCR athletes shattered five tournament records across swimming and track-and-field events.

Among the local government units under the NCR banner, Manila steered the ship by hauling 45 golds, 24 silvers, and 25 bronzes. Rizal Province delivered a strong second-best performance with a 24-21-22 medal split, closely followed by Pasig City’s contribution of 22 gold, 18 silver, and nine bronze medals.

Outside the capital region, Cebu City and Davao City also put up impressive numbers, bringing home 17 and 15 gold medals, respectively.

This latest triumph underscores NCR’s robust grassroots sports program, setting a high standard for athletic development nationwide.

Looking ahead, game organizers officially announced that the Palarong Pambansa will head back to the metro next year, with Quezon City designated to host the 2027 edition.
