NO SHORTCUT TO SERVICE: BIMBY AQUINO-YAP REGISTERS TO VOTE IN TARLAC, SPARKS SK RUMORS

The political mill is spinning fast in Tarlac. Bimby Aquino-Yap, the youngest son of Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, fueled speculation about a potential foray into local politics after registering as a voter in Tarlac province on the very last day of registration.

Adding weight to the rumors, the 17-year-old was accompanied to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office by Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap. The high-profile appearance immediately sparked chatter across various Tarlac-based social media pages, with locals claiming that the young Aquino-Yap is being positioned to run for a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) seat in Barangay Central, Tarlac City. No official confirmation has been made by the family or local officials.

Should Bimby decide to run, he would be stepping into a massive historical legacy. He is the grandson of two Philippine democracy icons: the late former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.

He is also the nephew of the late former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Currently, the family’s presence in high-profile governance rests with Senator Bam Aquino in the 20th Congress.

While the SK rumors remain unverified, entering public service is a path Bimby has explicitly refused to rule out. In an interview last year with talent manager and entertainment vlogger Ogie Diaz, he expressed a deeply ingrained, familial respect for the political arena.

“It’s always an option kasi sabi ni lola, my mom said, ‘Everyone in the family who entered politics, it is a calling.’ It’s not an easy job but it’s a job that can help so many people,” Bimby said.

Whether this voter registration is just a civic duty or the first calculated step toward continuing the Aquino political dynasty remains to be seen, but Tarlac is officially watching.
