Following a growing trend of Filipino music icons transitioning from radio hits to the stage, Ogie Alcasid’s extensive catalog is set to inspire a brand-new theatrical production.
The singer-songwriter and comedian will headline “Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical,” starring alongside his wife, singer Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. The production is slated for a run from May to July 2027 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Alcasid surprised audiences with the announcement during the closing performance of “Bongga Ka Day: The Annie Batungbakal Musical” on October 31, sharing that the project has been in development for seven years.
“Excited na po kami. Ito po ay pitong taon naming pinaggugulan at pinag-isipan kung paano namin ipapalabas ito. Excited na po kami,” he said.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Alcasid has established a vast collection of iconic OPM classics.
The upcoming musical will draw from his popular discography, which includes enduring hits such as “Kailangan Kita,” “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang,” “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka,” and “Hanggang Ngayon.”
