The emergency room of the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) will temporarily shut its doors from May 24 to June 1 to undergo crucial renovation works aimed at boosting safety, efficiency, and patient care.
Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso announced the suspension of ER operations during his “Talk to the People” broadcast, explaining that the temporary closure is vital to safeguard both patients and medical staff while the facility upgrades are underway.
“Isang linggo lang po ang kompromiso ko at tiyak na dadaloy ang ginhawa,” Domagoso said.
My compromise is just for one week, and comfort will surely follow.
The mayor emphasized that the brief inconvenience will pave the way for long-term enhancements in the city’s public health sector.
While the emergency department is offline, OMMC will maintain its intake of patients, who will then be systematically rerouted to alternative local government-run hospitals to prevent any gaps in treatment.
According to city officials, the face-lift is part of Manila’s comprehensive initiative to modernize its healthcare infrastructure, optimize medical delivery, and foster a more secure and comfortable space for the public and healthcare workers alike.
The Manila local government has reassured residents that emergency medical services will remain fully operational and coordinated across the city throughout the nine-day renovation window.
