PASIG CITY WINS NATIONAL TOURISM AND CONSUMER RIGHTS AWARDS

ORMOC CITY / QUEZON CITY — The Pasig City government recently added two major accolades to its achievements, taking home a national sustainable tourism award and a consumer rights citation on October 21.

During the 2026 Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) Pearl Awards held in Ormoc City, Leyte, Pasig secured the grand prize in the Best Practices on Sustainable Tourism category for highly urbanized cities.

The winning entry, titled “Beyond the First Bloom: Maybunga Rainforest Park’s Second Chapter in Sustainable Tourism,” highlighted the city’s ongoing efforts to promote ecotourism while protecting environmental assets, preserving local culture, and supporting community businesses.

This marks the city’s second consecutive victory in the category, following its 2025 win for the entry “Maybunga Rainforest Park: The Last Lung of Pasig.” Patrick Plandiano, head of the Pasig City Tourism, Culture and Arts Department and former officer-in-charge of the park, accepted the award alongside department staff.

Meanwhile, on the same day in Quezon City, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) honored Pasig as a Consumer Rights Champion during the Consumer Welfare Month 2026 celebration at Crowne Plaza.

Crisostomo Veron-Cruz, officer-in-charge of the Pasig City Local Economic Development and Investment Office (LEDIO), received the citation on behalf of the local government.

Through its consumer education initiatives, LEDIO continues to empower Pasigueños with the knowledge of their consumer rights and responsibilities to help them make well-informed purchasing decisions.
