QUEZON CITY AWARDS ₱300,000 GRANTS TO COMMUNITY DISASTER AND GREEN INITIATIVES

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Quezon City government has awarded financial grants of up to ₱300,000 to local organizations spearheading community-led initiatives focused on disaster resilience and environmental sustainability.

The grants were unveiled during the 2026 QC Green Awards held on Thursday night, November 5. The annual program, launched in 2023 as the country’s first LGU-led recognition of its kind, shifted this year from sector-based grouping to addressing specific climate and disaster challenges.

Out of 123 total entries, 82 advanced to the semifinals and 50 reached the finals. In addition to cash grants, the program offers technical support, expert coaching, and partnership opportunities with the city government.

Recognized projects under the Resilient Category include the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. – Quezon City Chapter’s Pre-Earthquake Assessment Project, which uses Rapid Visual Screening to evaluate seismic building vulnerabilities, and iFIVE, Inc.’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response Management Program, which reinforces workplace safety and business continuity.

Under the Green Category, MABU Philippines Inc. was honored for its food surplus marketplace, alongside Barangay Pasong Putik Proper for its FOOD Reskyu initiative redistributing safe excess food to families in need. Avida Towers Cloverleaf Condominium Corporation and One Vertis Plaza Condominium Corporation were also recognized for advancing green building practices and renewable electricity.

Additionally, HeritageFinds Clothing Shop received recognition for training local sewists to utilize Philippine tropical fabrics and indigenous weaves, promoting textile circularity and local livelihoods.

Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized that these projects showcase the power of community collaboration in building a secure and sustainable future.

“When we work together, there is no crisis we cannot overcome. We are one city rising, working hand in hand toward a future where everyone can share in progress,” Belmonte said.
