Quezon City collected 240.23 tons of flood debris—equivalent to 15,359 sacks of garbage—across 58 operations following the recent southwest monsoon (Habagat), according to the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works of Quezon City (DSQC).
The August volume marks a steep decline compared to previous years’ storm cleanups. For comparison, DSQC teams gathered 1,998.73 tons across 528 operations following Typhoon Crising in July 2025, and a massive 27,484 tons across 3,371 operations after Typhoon Carina and the Habagat hit in July 2024.
City officials attributed the reduced waste and fewer flooded communities to ongoing infrastructure updates under the city’s Drainage Master Plan, continuous local cleanup drives, and better community waste management.
Local authorities continue to urge residents to practice proper waste disposal to help prevent drainage blockages and maintain citywide cleanliness during the rainy season.
