QUEZON CITY SURGES WITH TRIPLE-DIGIT SPIKE IN NEW COVID-19 INFECTIONS

Quezon City is experiencing a notable surge in COVID-19 infections, with the local Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD) documenting a total of 146 confirmed cases as of July 1.

According to a public advisory released by city officials, local transmissions skyrocketed by 265.22% in just three weeks. The caseload jumped from 23 infections reported between May 21 and June 10 to 84 new cases recorded between June 11 and July 1, pushing the city’s annual total to 146.

Local health officials noted that minors aged 14 and under are currently the hardest-hit demographic, making up nearly 30% of the recorded cases. Young professionals aged 25 to 29 and senior citizens aged 60 and older followed closely, with each demographic accounting for roughly 16% of the patient pool.

The ages of those infected span from a one-month-old infant to a 92-year-old individual.

Geographically, District 4 emerged as the primary hotspot with 32.7% of the total cases, while District 1 registered 22.43%. On a neighborhood level, Barangay Doña Imelda logged the highest concentration with 11 cases. Meanwhile, Barangays Culiat, Salvacion, Santa Teresita, Santo Cristo, Sauyo, Socorro, and Tandang Sora reported four infections each.

A gender breakdown of the data indicates that females comprised the majority of the infections at 62% (66 cases), compared to males at 38% (41 cases). The infected population also includes four frontline medical workers.

Recognizing a steady six-week upward trend in positive cases, the Quezon City Health Department confirmed it is maintaining strict surveillance over the developing situation.

Residents are urged to reinforce basic health protocols—such as frequent hand hygiene, proper cough etiquette, wearing masks when symptomatic, and isolating at home when unwell—to effectively curb further community transmission.
