Former BIGBANG member Seungri is facing a police complaint over an alleged assault involving a man at a restaurant in Seoul.
The 35-year-old singer was reportedly identified as the subject of a complaint filed with the Seoul Gangnam Police Station on August 25. According to the complaint, Seungri allegedly committed special violence against a man in his 30s while the two were at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu.
South Korea’s Criminal Act defines special violence under Article 261 as an offense that “is committed through the threat of collective force or by carrying a dangerous weapon.” A person convicted of the offense may face up to five years in prison or a fine of as much as 10 million won, or approximately $7,426.
A police official said investigators have yet to question the complainant about the reported incident.
Seungri left BIGBANG and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in 2019 amid the widely publicized Burning Sun scandal.
He was subsequently found guilty of nine offenses, including prostitution mediation, embezzlement, and violations of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. He received a one-year-and-six-month prison sentence and was released in February 2023 after completing his term.
Following his release, Seungri has made appearances at several clubs in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia. He was also recently seen in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The latest complaint remains an allegation, and authorities have yet to establish Seungri’s guilt or liability in connection with the reported incident.
