Despite her deep family roots in government, legendary showbiz figure Sharon Cuneta has firmly ruled out a career in Philippine politics, stating she lacks the stomach for public office.
In a recent interview with host Boy Abunda, the veteran actress and singer addressed long-standing questions about potential political plans with a witty refusal.
“I would consider running away from politics. Tatakbo ako palayo,” she said.
The Megastar elaborated on her decision by drawing a sharp contrast between showbiz and government service. She noted that public criticism in entertainment is harmless, whereas political missteps carry high stakes that directly impact the public.
“Sa showbiz it is so understandable na iba-iba ang taste ng tao. ’Yung iba Sharonian, ’yung iba hindi. Okay lang,” she explained.
“Kapag ang politiko nagkamali, may maaapektuhan usually daang libo, milyon and that’s a very big responsibility,” she said.
Though Cuneta grew up exposed to governance as the daughter of the late Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta and is married to Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, she maintained that having good intentions is not enough to navigate political life.
“And I may have the smarts. I may have the heart for it. Ang lagi kong sinasabi, I will never have the stomach for it,” Cuneta added.
