SEOUL, South Korea — K-pop sensation Stray Kids has decided not to submit any of its work for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, following in the footsteps of fellow megagroup BTS.
The group’s agency, JYP Entertainment, confirmed the decision to skip the submission process, according to a BBC report. The move comes even though all eight members—Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N—were added to the Recording Academy’s voting membership earlier this year.
As voting members, the group retains the ability to cast ballots for nominees and winners across categories, despite not putting their own music forward.
The boycott follows backlash surrounding the Recording Academy’s June announcement introducing a new “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category.
BTS previously announced their decision to skip the 2027 Grammys in July, expressing dissatisfaction with the new category.
“We have decided not to submit to this year’s Grammys. We hope that music can be heard and loved for its own sake, rather than being categorized by region or language. We thank ARMY [fans] and everyone who is always with us,” BTS said in a statement.
BTS has previously earned five Grammy nominations, including nods for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “My Universe,” as well as nominations for Album of the Year and Best Music Video.
Stray Kids’ decision to abstain follows confirmation from Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. that the new category will officially launch for the 2027 awards.
Despite opting out of the Grammys, Stray Kids continues to dominate global charts; their latest album, “This & That,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and recorded 3.43 million sales in August, according to Hanteo Chart data.
Under the 69th Grammy Awards rulebook, the official entry window ran from July 7 to August 21. First-round voting is scheduled for October 12 to 22, with official nominations set to be revealed on November 16.
The ceremony will take place on February 7, 2027.
