THE POD NETWORK DROPS MACHONG CHISMISAN FOLLOWING BACKLASH OVER REMARKS ABOUT JOSH AQUINO

MANILA, Philippines — The Pod Network has terminated its contract with Machong Chismisan following widespread criticism over remarks made by the podcast’s hosts about Josh Aquino, the eldest son of television personality Kris Aquino, sparking renewed discussions about responsible content creation and respect for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The controversy erupted after a clip from the podcast’s October 5, 2026, episode, titled “Ang Pagbabalik ni Kris Aquino,” circulated online. The hosts discussed Josh and his younger brother, Bimby Aquino, with one participant describing Bimby as a good son while referring to Josh as “walang kuwenta.”

Another remark questioned Josh’s reported daily school allowance of ₱3,000, prompting laughter during the discussion. The comments drew strong reactions from netizens, who criticized the hosts for ridiculing Josh, who is on the autism spectrum.

The Pod Network ends its partnership

On October 15, The Pod Network announced that it had ended its partnership with the podcast and removed the show from its network, effective immediately.

The decision followed mounting criticism over the episode. The network had also acknowledged the concerns raised by the public, emphasizing that persons with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals deserve dignity and respect in the content distributed through its platforms.

Podcast issues an apology

In response to the backlash, Machong Chismisan confirmed that it had removed the controversial episode and stopped promoting clips related to the discussion.

The podcast acknowledged that some of the remarks were “inexcusably insensitive and hurtful.” It apologized to those who were offended, the PWD community, and the individuals mentioned in the episode.

The program also pledged to exercise greater care in reviewing future episodes and to address potentially harmful remarks more promptly.

Host Tito P separately apologized for his comments, while Lawrence Vivar also expressed regret over his involvement in the discussion. Tito P disclosed that he has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but acknowledged that this did not excuse the hurt caused by his statements.

Celebrities defend Josh

Several personalities publicly condemned the remarks and expressed support for Josh and his family.

Television host Boy Abunda addressed the controversy on his program Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, describing the comments as cruel and hurtful, particularly to families raising children with disabilities. He also said he would advise Kris to consider legal action if she sought his counsel.

Fashion designer Michael Leyva likewise criticized the podcast hosts, emphasizing that Josh deserved love and support rather than ridicule. Former Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste also expressed anger over the remarks, while other personalities close to the Aquino family shared messages defending Josh’s character.

Autism Society Philippines calls for respect

The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) also condemned the incident in a statement titled “Patawang Hindi Nakakatawa,” underscoring that disability should never be treated as a punchline for entertainment.

The organization reminded content creators and audiences of the importance of protecting the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities. It also cited Republic Act No. 9442, which provides protections against public ridicule and vilification of persons with disabilities.

The controversy has highlighted broader concerns about online accountability, disability awareness, and the boundaries of comedy in digital media. While content creators have the freedom to express opinions and produce entertainment, the incident has prompted renewed calls for greater sensitivity and responsibility when discussing people with disabilities.
