TV5 GEARS UP FOR FULL DIGITAL BROADCASTING TRANSITION AMID INDUSTRY-WIDE SHIFT

MANILA, Philippines — TV5 is strengthening its position in the country’s evolving broadcast landscape as the Philippines moves closer to the full transition from analog to digital television, underscoring the network’s readiness to embrace technological advancements and deliver accessible, high-quality programming to Filipino viewers.

The transition comes as the government implements its Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) Migration Plan, which aims to gradually replace traditional analog television transmission with digital broadcasting using the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) standard.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), through Memorandum Circular No. 005-11-2025, has set November 22, 2026, as the target date for the completion of the initial analog switch-off covering Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga, and Bataan.

TV5 has already established its presence in digital terrestrial television broadcasting. Based on the NTC’s September 2025 list of authorized television broadcast stations, TV5 Network, Inc. operates a digital television station on Channel 18, with transmission facilities listed in Quezon City and Antipolo.

This existing digital broadcasting infrastructure provides the network with an established foundation as the industry moves toward digital-only transmission in areas covered by the government’s migration program.

The network’s digital capabilities also align with the broader direction of MediaQuest Holdings, TV5’s parent media group, which maintains investments across traditional broadcasting, digital media, and content distribution. TV5 continues to make its programming available through its official digital platforms, complementing its free-to-air television services and extending its reach to audiences using different devices.

The shift to digital broadcasting is expected to provide several advantages to both broadcasters and viewers, including clearer picture and sound quality, improved reception, more efficient use of broadcast frequencies, and greater capacity for additional channels and programming.

Digital terrestrial television also supports the Integrated Emergency Warning Broadcast System (IEWBS), which enables compatible television receivers to deliver automated alerts and on-screen warnings during natural disasters and other emergencies.

As the November 22 deadline approaches, broadcasters operating within the initial coverage areas are expected to complete their migration to the digital standard. The succeeding phases will undergo assessment in 2027, followed by regional expansion in 2028 and 2029, with the government targeting a stable nationwide digital broadcasting system by 2030 and beyond.

For television viewers, the transition will require digital-ready television sets or compatible set-top boxes that support the ISDB-T standard. Existing analog television units can still be used with an appropriate digital receiver, allowing households to continue accessing free-to-air programming without necessarily purchasing new television sets.

With an established digital broadcasting presence and an expanding multiplatform distribution strategy, TV5 is positioned to take part in the country’s transition toward a more modern television broadcasting environment while continuing to serve Filipino audiences through news, entertainment, sports, and public service programming.
