‘VIBE’ CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH STAR-STUDDED OPM MUSIC SPECIAL

The musical variety show VIBE staged a massive celebration of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and P-Pop in honor of Philippine Independence Day, gathering iconic music legends, viral internet stars, and rising modern acts under a unified theme of national pride.

The special broadcast launched with an energetic opening production featuring the VIBE Jocks alongside vocal powerhouse Thor Dulay. The segment channeled the Filipino spirit through stirring renditions of classic patriotic anthems, including “Ang Himig Natin,” “Mahal Kong Pilipinas,” and a climactic performance of the rock hit “Noypi.”

Following the opening, the Uprising Universe segment spotlighted the fan-voted Top Uprising Star of the Week. Girl group Sugar N’ Spice clinched the title under the “Cute” category with 51.59% of the total votes, taking the stage to express deep gratitude to the fans who believed in their talent.

Meanwhile, the Vibe Spot showcase highlighted viral internet sensations. Outgoing star Limuel Llanes delivered an inspiring performance of his original song “Kayang,” sharing that the track’s core message is to motivate listeners never to give up.

He then passed the torch to the newest Vibe Spot feature: the CSTC Grandeurs, a fiery dance troupe from Quezon Province who revealed that their tight choreography was the result of practicing every single night.

Nostalgia took center stage as the show welcomed three legendary “OG” acts. First was a highly anticipated reunion 27 years in the making, as the 90s P-Pop pioneer girl group Tangerine performed their classic hit “Huwag Na Huwag.”

The members thanked the audience for singing along and explained that their nearly three-decade hiatus was due to pursuing college degrees, family life, and other musical endeavors. They also announced a modern rebranding under the trendy name “Sharmaine.”

The second OG feature welcomed the Ultimate Cebuano Balladeer, Chad Borja, who delivered a live rendition of “Ikaw Lang.” Borja thanked TV5, the show, and his dedicated fans—collectively known as “Vhies”—for requesting the performance.

He candidly shared that after growing up as a singer, he had to pause his career following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, expressing immense gratitude for surviving the disease.

The energy shifted to the Main Vibe segment, which featured historic first-time performances on the show. P-Pop boy group 6ENSE made their debut appearance to perform their latest comeback track “Piliin Mo Ako,” which currently holds the number four spot on the show’s charts.

Group members Hunter and Wiji seized the moment to deliver an impactful, forward-looking message regarding the upcoming 2028 elections.

“Marami pong mga taong umiibig ng bulag, Tama po ba? Sometimes we say na love is blind.

Closing out the chart countdown at the coveted number one spot was the alternative band It All Started In May, making their own VIBE debut with their latest single “Di Ko Man Masambit.”

Reflecting on the heavy emotional themes of their chart-topping song, the band offered an encouraging perspective on resilience.

“There’s always hope, laging may pag-asa. So, lagi naming iniisip na ang tao may kakayahang may panipabagong hubog siguro kung alam mo lang ang hangganan nun. Lahat kase ng worth it, mahirap i-let go,” the band stated.

The final OG tribute belonged to the Pride of Mindanao and ethnic music icon Joey Ayala.

Delivering powerful performances of “Magkaugnay (Ang Lahat Ng Bagay)” and “Karaniwang Tao,” Ayala reminded the public that true national unity stems from maintaining a cool head, managing basic emotions to avoid conflict, and keeping a clear mind.

Before closing the broadcast, production organizers announced that weekly viewer voting has officially resumed. Fans can vote for their favorite OPM and P-Pop artists online at the network’s official portal (vibeph.tv).

The current voting window closes this coming Thursday, June 18, at 11:59 AM, with the next cycle reopening immediately at 12:00 PM.

VIBE broadcasts daily, Monday through Sunday, across major television networks including TV5, One PH, True TV, and the Kapatid Channel, alongside official live streaming platforms.
