‘ARE YOU A JIRAI GIRL, CHIHARA-SAN?’ ANIME SLATED FOR JANUARY 2027

Romantic comedy enthusiasts have a highly anticipated television debut to mark on their calendars as the production committee for Are You a Jirai Girl, Chihara-san? (Jirai Nandesuka? Chihara-san) officially confirmed a January 2027 broadcasting window. The high-profile update, unveiled on June 25, 2026, also introduced an impressive wave of veteran casting additions and a unique multimedia music project designed to fuel momentum ahead of the winter season.

Veteran Voice Actors Join the Lineup

The upcoming series is set to feature a star-studded ensemble of industry mainstays. Reprising their roles from previous promotional shorts are lead voice actors Sayumi Suzushiro, who voices the titular Mai Chihara, and Kazuki Ura, who takes on the role of Kuroki.

To expand the school’s social circle, the committee announced three celebrated figures joining the supporting cast. Maaya Uchida, widely recognized for her performance in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, has been cast as Chinatsu Iwakura. Renowned voice actor Tomokazu Sugita, the iconic voice behind Gintama, joins the roster as Hibiya, while industry giant Daisuke Ono, famous for his portrayal of Jotaro Kujo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, will bring the character of Kazami to life.

Strategic Multi-Platform Music Campaign

In a unique promotional strategy to build audience engagement months before the official television broadcast, the franchise will launch a companion music project this summer. The anime’s first digital single, titled “Alien Alien,” is scheduled for release on July 25, 2026. The musical rollout will be accompanied by a dedicated “artist visual” highlighting the main heroine’s striking subculture aesthetic, aiming to sustain active fan community discussions throughout the latter half of the year.

Exploring Modern Subculture Appeal

Based on the hit romantic comedy manga by Ryon, which has enjoyed steady serialization on the GANMA! web platform since June 2021, the story follows Kuroki, a thoroughly ordinary high school student, and his new seatmate Mai Chihara. Despite her deeply intimidating jirai-kei (landmine girl) gothic fashion, doll-like skin, and a dark reputation that keeps classmates at bay, Chihara is quickly revealed to be a clumsy, lonely, and deeply kind-hearted girl who simply longs for genuine connection. The underlying narrative masterfully explores themes of societal misjudgment and finding the wholesome depth hidden beneath alternative youth aesthetics.

Acclaimed Behind-the-Scenes Production Team

Animation studio SynergySP, well-regarded for animating hit series like A Couple of Cuckoos, is spearheading the animation production. Direction is handled by Yasuaki Fujii, who recently earned critical acclaim for his cinematic work as an episode director and storyboard artist on Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3.

Rounding out the core creative staff is Keiichirō Ōchi (The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten) managing series composition, Majiro (UniteUp!) handling character designs, and award-winning composer Alisa Okehazama (Jujutsu Kaisen) crafting the anime’s musical landscape.

With eight compiled volumes currently in circulation in Japan and an official English physical release from Seven Seas Entertainment set to hit international shelves this September, Are You a Jirai Girl, Chihara-san? is securely positioned for a major breakout season when it debuts in early 2027.
