MANILA, Philippines — Japanese anisong singer halca opened up about her recording habits, anticipation for meeting Filipino fans, and advice for aspiring artists during a recent media interview ahead of her participation in the JAM Concert.
The questions for the interview were provided by O’Taco Bites, offering fans a closer look at the artist’s personality and creative process.
Staying “Normal” in the Studio
When asked about her preparation as a veteran anisong performer, halca emphasized consistency and staying true to herself during recordings.
“I try to be as normal as possible. Like doesn’t do anything special. I put my feelings when I do the recordings, but sometimes doing something different from the usual makes me a bit scared, or like ‘Oh no, this is not what I wanted,’ like that kind of thing. That’s why I usually just keep my normal self—[and] just be my normal self when I do recordings.”
She also shared small personal rituals that help her get into the right mindset before recording sessions.
“My favorite food is actually spinach bread, and near the studio where they do the recordings, there’s a place that sells spinach bread, so I usually buy that before she goes to the recordings, and also drinks this herb tea called Fruit Cone.”
Excitement for First Philippine Visit
halca expressed enthusiasm about finally visiting the Philippines as part of the JAM Concert lineup, noting her long standing curiosity about the country.
“I was very happy because I felt like, ‘Oh, I finally get to come to the Philippines!’ When I was a student, I had a lot of friends that have a lot of relations to the Philippines, like half Filipino friends. So I am always very curious to know more about the Philippines, like where my friends grew up or what kind of food my half [Filipino] friends used to eat [in] the Philippines.”
She added that Filipino fans have long been present in her online engagements.
“Even during Instagram lives or YouTube lives, there would be a lot of people saying that they’re ‘Watching from the Philippines’, ‘I love you!’, so I always wanted to come to see my ans here.”
Advice for Aspiring Filipino Anisong Singers
In her message to aspiring Filipino anisong performers, halca highlighted the importance of individuality and self belief.
“This is quite a hard question, but I think that it’s important for these aspiring singers to find something unique within themselves, even if it’s just one thing unique to themselves, and believe in themselves. And with that, they can probably go anywhere and be anyone that they want, and that’s [what] I’m cheering them on.”
Strengthening Cultural Connection Through Music
halca’s upcoming appearance at the JAM Concert marks another instance of Japanese artists engaging with Filipino audiences, reflecting the growing influence of anisong and anime culture in the Philippines.
Fans are expected to see her perform live, further strengthening the connection she has already built through online platforms and music releases.
Through her candid responses, halca offered fans a glimpse into her artistic process and personal journey, while expressing genuine excitement to finally meet her Filipino supporters.
As anticipation builds for the JAM Concert, her appearance is expected to be one of the highlights for anime music fans in the country.
