Gilas Pilipinas fell three spots to No. 39 in the updated FIBA men’s world rankings following winless road games in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The Philippine squad had held the 36th position but slipped after a narrow 106-102 overtime loss to New Zealand and a tough 92-49 defeat against Australia. Even with the dip, Gilas holds firm as the seventh-best team in the Asia-Pacific zone.
Australia still tops the regional table despite dropping one place globally to No. 7. Japan holds the second spot in Asia-Pacific at No. 22 overall, while New Zealand slid down one notch to No. 25, staying third in the region.
Iran moved up two places to No. 26, edging past China, which plummeted four spots to No. 30. Lebanon also gained two places to land at No. 31, holding sixth place regionally. Jordan held steady at No. 41 to remain eighth in Asia-Pacific, with South Korea (No. 57) and Saudi Arabia (No. 65) rounding out the regional top 10.
Heading into the second round of the World Cup qualifiers, Iran stands as the only team in the Philippines’ group with a higher global ranking. Jordan (No. 41) and Syria (No. 74) complete the pool. However, both Iran and Syria currently sit above Gilas in the group standings with matching 5-1 records.
Gilas Pilipinas will kick off the fourth window at home at the Mall of Asia Arena, taking on Jordan on Aug. 28 before locking horns with Iran on Aug. 30.
At the summit of the world standings, the United States, Germany, Serbia, France, and Canada maintained the top five spots. Spain edged past Australia to claim sixth, while Argentina remained eighth. Brazil and Lithuania swapped ranks to complete the global top 10.
