BACOLOD BROADCAST EXECUTIVE SUSPENDED OVER LIVE ‘RAPE JOKE’

A local broadcast executive faces intense public backlash and an indefinite suspension following a lewd “rape joke” made during a live radio program in Bacolod City.

The controversy erupted during a recent airing of the program “11MBPS” on the K5 News FM Network. While discussing a criminal case involving a man accused of abusing his seven-year-old child, anchor Jean Paul Generoso directed an inappropriate remark toward a female reporter.

Generoso allegedly stated on air that he “wanted to rape” the reporter so he could be sent to jail and confront the suspect—a comment he reportedly repeated during the broadcast.

The broadcast swiftly drew fierce condemnation from media and advocacy groups. The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), the Negros Press Club, and women’s rights group Gabriela slammed the remarks, highlighting that the statement constituted clear sexual harassment and emphasizing that rape is never a laughing matter.

Local officials in Bacolod City also denounced the incident. Councilor Celia Flor stressed that such harmful rhetoric only serves to silence victims of actual violence.

Following the uproar, Generoso issued a public apology, admitting that his statements were “deeply insensitive and irresponsible” while offering his regrets to those affected.

Meanwhile, the management of K5 News FM Network confirmed that Generoso has been placed under indefinite suspension effective immediately, pending a formal internal investigation into the incident.
