After 17 years of telling stories of romance, heartbreak, hope, and second chances through radio, “Barangay Love Stories” is taking its popular narratives to television.
The drama program of GMA’s FM station Barangay LS 97.1 will premiere its television adaptation on GMA Network on Saturday, September 12, giving longtime listeners the opportunity to see on screen the characters and situations they have imagined while listening to the radio series.
Longtime host Papa Dudut said he is excited about the transition, particularly because viewers will now have visuals to accompany the stories.
“Ang nagpapa-excite sa akin is knowing na hindi na mag-i-imagine ’yung mga listeners para maramdaman nila ’yung mga kwento ng Barangay Love Stories,” he said. “Kasi meron nang visual aid.”
The move to television will transform the show’s familiar audio elements into actual scenes, allowing audiences to watch the confrontations, emotional moments, and heartbreaks that were previously conveyed through voices and sound effects.
“Yung dating sound effects lang to imagine the drama scenes, ngayon may kulay na, may ngiti na, may luha na na makikita ninyo sa TV,” he said.
Despite its new medium, the television adaptation will retain the storytelling approach and emotional appeal that have helped make “Barangay Love Stories” a longtime radio favorite.
The program will feature a rotating lineup of young actors, with Shuvee Etrata and Anthony Constantino leading the premiere episode. Sofia Pablo and Iñigo Jose will headline the second installment, while Ashley Sarmiento and Rave Victoria will appear in the third.
For longtime fans, watching the characters they have spent years imagining through radio may offer a different experience, while first-time viewers will be able to see the settings and personalities as the stories unfold.
After nearly two decades on radio, “Barangay Love Stories” is now expanding its reach to television, bringing its familiar tales of love and life to a new audience.
“Barangay Love Stories” airs every Saturday at 4 p.m. on GMA beginning September 12.
