GMA Network’s news magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) addressed questions raised by a vlogger regarding its coverage of a damaged flood control structure at the Nanguneg West Bridge construction site in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.
In a statement, KMJS affirmed that its broadcast clearly identified the specific government contract tied to the infrastructure.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) documents confirm that the Nanguneg West Bridge replacement project—designated as Contract ID No. 25AD0047—was awarded to SATRAP Construction Co., Inc. for ₱112.315 million. The project scope encompasses both the bridge replacement and associated slope protection systems.
Additional DPWH records indicate a separate contract awarded to the same firm for constructing flood mitigation structures spanning Nanguneg West and San Pedro in Narvacan.
The original segment featured an interview with SATRAP President and General Manager Engr. Harold Molina, who noted that slope protection and revetment elements were integral parts of the project, explaining that extreme rainfall, elevated river levels, and severe water currents triggered the damage.
Standard reports from the DPWH and media outlets confirmed that persistent downpours caused a section of the slope protection to collapse. The bridge remained under construction and was closed to traffic when the incident occurred.
Molina confirmed that the contractor will handle all required repairs under its contractual guarantees. SATRAP cited intense current flows as the primary cause of the collapse and stated that corrective actions will involve rebuilding the affected revetment and evaluating its structural foundation.
To ensure public safety, the DPWH Ilocos Sur 2nd District Engineering Office has placed warning signs around the site while repair strategies are finalized.
KMJS maintained that its reporting relied on official DPWH records, statements from the project contractor, and accounts from local residents to ensure transparency regarding the state of public infrastructure and the utilization of government funds.
