NETIZENS CLASH OVER RETURN OF PRO-DUTERTE FIGURES TO MAJOR NETWORKS

The Philippine media landscape is currently a digital battleground as netizens voice sharp criticism against ABS-CBN and GMA Network. The controversy surrounds the return of two major figures known for their vocal support of former President Rodrigo Duterte: Senator Robin Padilla and veteran host Willie Revillame.

ROBIN PADILLA JOINS ABS-CBN’S “BLOOD VS. DUTY”

After an eight-year break from acting, Senator Robin Padilla is making his primetime comeback via ABS-CBN Studios’ action series, “Blood vs. Duty.” The production arm, JRB Creative Productions, confirmed Padilla will play Ahmad Mustapha, a role the senator accepted for its representation of the Filipino Muslim community.

However, the announcement has reopened old wounds for many “Kapamilya” supporters. Critics have been quick to point out the irony of Padilla working for the very network whose 2020 shutdown he supported.

Netizens reminded the public of Padilla’s alignment with the Duterte administration, which led to the denial of ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise and the displacement of thousands of workers.

“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat ng buong puso sa balanseng paglalahad sa istorya patungkol sa buhay ng mga kababayan ninyong mga Filipino Muslim. Ang malinaw na pagpapakita ng aming pananampalatayang Islam ay ginintuan sa aming mga mata…”

(“I wholeheartedly thank you for the balanced portrayal of the story about the lives of our fellow Filipino Muslims. The clear presentation of our Islamic faith is truly valuable in our eyes…”)

WILLIE REVILLAME EYES GMA-7 RETURN AFTER “WILYONARYO” CLOSURE

Meanwhile, the “Kapuso” community is buzzing with reports of Willie Revillame’s potential return to GMA Network. Revillame recently announced that his current program, “Wilyonaryo,” will air its final episode on May 15, 2026. The move is reportedly influenced by advertising struggles linked to the show’s online gaming component.

Following a sighting with GMA executives, including Senior VP Annette Gozon-Valdes, rumors have intensified that his flagship show “Wowowin” will return to its former home. Revillame’s recent years have been a series of network shifts: from leaving GMA in 2022 to join the Villar-owned ALLTV, to a brief stint on TV5, and a failed Senate bid in the 2025 midterm elections.

While ABS-CBN has cast Padilla in a supporting role for its newest action-drama, negotiations between Revillame and GMA remain unofficial. Sources suggest recent meetings were informal catch-ups rather than contract signings, leaving the host’s television future in suspense.
