TV5 PRIMETIME NEWCOMERS STRUGGLE AGAINST ESTABLISHED HITS

The latest television ratings data from the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) suggests a challenging start for TV5’s newest primetime offerings. Despite high production values and notable digital traction, both “A Secret in Prague” and “My Bespren Emman” are currently trailing behind long-standing programs from rival networks.

According to data from Wednesday, April 29, the romantic thriller “A Secret in Prague,” starring Enrique Gil and Andrea Brillantes, managed a 0.8% TV rating. While the show has enjoyed a successful run on Netflix Philippines—consistently appearing in the Top 10—it has struggled to convert that digital interest into traditional broadcast viewers. In comparison, GMA-7’s fantasy epic “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” dominated the slot with a combined rating of 10.8%, while ABS-CBN Studios’ “Blood vs. Duty” secured a steady 3.8% across its various platforms.

Similarly, the inspirational drama “My Bespren Emman,” headlined by JM de Guzman and Shaina Magdayao, registered a 0.6% rating. The program faced stiff competition from GMA’s “Never Say Die,” which posted 7.2%, and ABS-CBN’s “The Alibi: Ang Buong Katotohanan,” which earned 3.1%.

The current ratings landscape underscores the uphill battle TV5 faces in breaking the established viewing habits of the primetime audience. Although the “Kapatid” network has aggressively expanded its content partnerships with ABS-CBN Studios and various streaming giants, the data indicates that GMA and ABS-CBN remain the primary choices for free-to-air evening entertainment.

Industry analysts suggest that while TV5’s digital-first strategy is yielding results on platforms like Netflix and YouTube, the network still needs to find a formula that resonates with the broader traditional television demographic to significantly move the needle in national ratings.
