Weekend variety programs are experiencing a noticeable decline in viewership, based on the latest data from research firm AGB Nielsen’s National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM).
On Sunday, May 24, GMA Network’s musical-variety program All-Out Sundays clinched the top spot in its timeslot with a 2.5% rating. It easily defeated its competitors: TV5’s Vibe Playback (archived episode re-runs), which scraped a 0.2% rating, and ABS-CBN’s movie block Sunday Noontime Blockbusters, which garnered 1.1%.
Despite securing the timeslot victory, the Kapuso variety show is visibly struggling to reclaim its previous viewership strength, historically hovering around the 3% to 4% mark.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s long-running Sunday flagship variety show ASAP XP continues to face uphill battles in capturing the weekend crowd, even after shifting to a late-afternoon schedule.
The program posted a 1.6% combined rating across its broadcast platforms (A2Z, ALLTV, and Kapamilya Channel) in its new 5:30 PM slot. This was soundly defeated by GMA’s news program 24 Oras Weekend, which dominated with 4.6%, followed by RPTV’s coverage of the PBA 1st Game at 2.9%, and TV5’s Frontline Pilipinas Weekend at 0.4%.
The downward trend hit Saturday music-countdown shows as well. TV5’s fresh episode of Vibe on Saturday, May 23, plummeted to a mere 0.4% combined rating.
It was completely overwhelmed by GMA Network’s multi-awarded sitcom Pepito Manaloto, which scored a commanding 7.1%. During the same block, ABS-CBN’s game show Kapamilya Deal or No Deal registered 2.8%, while GTV’s movie lineup G! Flicks recorded 2.2%.
