President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. officially opened the new permanent headquarters and support facilities for the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 9B during his visit to Maimbung, Sulu, on Monday, June 29.
Dubbed Camp Hadji Suod B. Tan, the new 1.8-hectare complex in Barangay Bualo Lipid features a four-story administration building, separate barracks for male and female personnel, a firing range, and essential utility infrastructure like an elevated water tank, an internal road network, and security guard houses.
The property was donated by the Sulu provincial government in 2021, with construction kicking off in February 2024 to give the battalion a strategic, long-term base.
The camp honors the late former Maimbung Mayor Hadji Suod Tan for his dedication to community development and public service. As the Philippine National Police’s mobile reaction unit, the RMFB handles internal security and backs up local police during high-risk missions.
Following a 2025 referendum that moved Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Isabela City from the Bangsamoro region to the Zamboanga Peninsula, RMFB 9B now oversees these areas.
While visiting the province, President Marcos also inspected 195 high-powered, unregistered firearms that were voluntarily surrendered by civilians across Sulu’s 19 municipalities.
