LOS ANGELES — HBO and Warner Bros. have officially set a theatrical premiere date of June 6, 2029, for ” Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest,” marking the first feature film expansion of the fantasy franchise onto the big screen.
Director Owen Harris has been tapped to helm the project.
The story centers on Aegon I Targaryen, the founder of the ruling dynasty, detailing his historic military campaign to unify and conquer the continent of Westeros centuries prior to the events depicted in the original series.
Studio executives have not yet announced casting details for the central role of Aegon I.
Warner Bros. initially unveiled ” Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” during its presentation at CinemaCon in April 2026, though specific creative leads and release schedules were kept under wraps at the time.
The original ” Game of Thrones” television series, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s renowned fantasy book series, ran for eight seasons on HBO between 2011 and 2019, securing numerous Emmy Awards over its broadcast run.
This upcoming movie serves as the latest entry in HBO’s expanding lineup of Westeros-based projects. The television franchise continues to grow, with ” House of the Dragon” set to return for its fourth season and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” already secured for a second season.
