BUREAU OF CUSTOMS GENERATES ₱329.9M FROM FORFEITED GOODS AUCTIONS

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has generated ₱329.934 million from January to May 2026 through public auctions and negotiated sales of confiscated items, aligning with state efforts to convert seized assets into government revenue.

A major portion of the revenue came from the sale of 13 vehicles seized from the Discaya family in January 2026. The forfeiture and subsequent liquidation of these vehicles brought in ₱114,744,884.15, marking the agency’s highest single disposal gain for the year.

The BOC stated that the collected funds have been remitted to the Bureau of the Treasury to help finance public infrastructure, essential services, and various government initiatives.

Officials noted that fast-tracking the disposal of these assets prevents them from deteriorating or losing value while in government storage.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno reassured the public of the system’s integrity, emphasizing that all proceeds are strictly regulated to serve the public interest.

“Proceeds from the auction do not go to personal interests. These are government funds that go through the proper process, from official receipts, recording, deposit, up to audit. It is important for the public to know that every peso generated from the auction is accounted for and handled in accordance with the law,” Nepomuceno said.

To ensure transparency, the BOC manages its sales through a structured framework involving public notices, site inspections, and competitive bidding.

The agency added that the auctions are livestreamed to allow real-time monitoring by the public and media, safeguarding state interests and ensuring legal compliance.
