Acting Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino has unveiled the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) new policy framework, spotlighting labor justice, job generation, and enhanced protections for gig and digital-economy workers.
Speaking before business leaders at the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) Special Members’ General Meeting in Makati City, the former lawmaker outlined a strategic direction focused on upholding labor rights, boosting employment, advancing workforce development, and maintaining industrial peace.
Central to this vision is a commitment to fairness, which Tolentino plans to reinforce by establishing a dedicated Labor Attorney’s Office and a National Academy for Labor Justice.
The Acting Secretary also emphasized the growing importance of the digital workforce, calling for modernized safeguards to protect gig workers.
Furthermore, Tolentino advocated for a shift toward transparent, public-facing tripartism over closed-door negotiations.
“Tripartism should not just be performed, done, or consummated in a secluded boardroom or office. Tripartism, with the aid of social media, should be out there. The public needs to know not only the grievances of our workers but also the performance, sacrifices, and efforts of our management,” Tolentino said.
