Commuters on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will enjoy discounted rides for another month as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) extended its ₱1 fare cashback promotion through August 31.
The initiative is carried out in partnership with the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and the Social Security System (SSS). Originally set to conclude on July 31, the program was prolonged following coordination with key partners.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez expressed gratitude to RCBC, SSS, and Finance Secretary Frederick Go for facilitating the extension.
”Dapat hanggang July 31 lang ito, pero na-extend natin hanggang August 31. Malaking tulong ito sa mga komyuter dahil ‘yung matitipid nilang pamasahe, pwede pa nilang magamit ngayon sa ibang bagay tulad ng pambaon sa eskwela at pambili ng pagkain o gamot,” Lopez said in a statement Friday.
To avail of the ₱1 promotional rate, passengers must tap in at LRT-2 cashless turnstiles using a MySSS Card or eligible RCBC debit or credit cards.
Depending on the route distance, commuters can save up to ₱17 per trip, with a daily cap of eight discounted rides per cardholder.
